  Portsmouth and Hampshire

Arthur Conan Doyle established his own medical practice in Southsea, Portsmouth, having previously worked in Plymouth with a fellow Edinburgh graduate.

His first wife, Louise, was the sister of one of his patients.

The grave of Arthur Conan Doyle lies in the churchyard at Minstead in the New Forest, Hampshire. He was originally buried in the garden in his home in Sussex but was re-interred alongside his second wife, Jean, when the house was sold in 1955.

His epitaph reads: 'Steel True, Blade Straight. Arthur Conan Doyle, Knight, Patriot, Physician and Man of Letters.'
